ALICE NICHOLAS WOOD
COMPOSER
Alice Nicholas Wood came to music at an early age, beginning violin at age three and piano at age six at which point she wrote her first original composition entitled, “The Garden of Love and Delight.” She was a very serious six year old. She continued her education in music composition, studying under Juilliard-trained composer Lawrence Dillon at North Carolina School of the Arts. She went on to earn a degree from University of Southern California, double majoring in classical music composition and film scoring, under such renowned composers as Stephen Hartke, David Raksin and Christopher Young.
While studying, she began working for music editor Nick South on Rolfe Kent scores like Legally Blonde, Mean Girls and Wedding Crashers. From that time, she worked as a music editor on a number of films, selecting temp score, running scoring sessions, and acting as a liaison between the director and composer. This experience, especially working closely with directors in the final mix, helped hone her instincts as a film composer to communicate with a director and get to the heart of his or her vision.
Since then, she has scored numerous feature films, short films, and commercials. She is excited to announce the recent completion of her score for the feature film American Primitive , starring Josh Peck, Tate Donovan and Danielle Savre. She also recently finished writing music for Terra Antarctica: Re-Discovering the Seventh Continent, to be shown on the National Geographic Channel.
Though she is classically trained, Alice enjoys exploring all kinds of music, and over the past three years, she has written for and played in two folk-rock bands, two electro-pop bands, and an all-girl jug band.
